LUXURY WINE TOUR Cortijo de la Fresneda. Málaga a a

Nature, Heritage and Mediterranean Light

Luxury Wine Tour

We are located in the very heart of Cortijo La Fresneda, a 2,000-hectare agricultural estate with more than two centuries of history, dedicated to traditional crops native to the Montes de Málaga such as olive, vine, almond and grain, situated just 35 minutes from Málaga.

It currently comprises 800 hectares of olive groves of the Hojiblanca and Arbequina varieties, 5 hectares of vineyard, and 1,195 hectares of high mountain landscape characterised by Mediterranean woodland (holm oaks, small lagoons and pines), ideal for walking or horse riding.

Luxury Wine Tour

Next to Andalusian-style houses dating back to 1800, which formed part of the cortijo era, at the foothills of the Sierra de Camarolos, stretches a 5-hectare vineyard at an altitude of 824 metres. It lies on very poor soils, composed of limestone rocks with a sparse presence of echinoderm, mollusc and algae fossils. Here, red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot and Syrah are cultivated, complemented by the white variety most emblematic of Málaga’s winemaking tradition, Moscatel de Alejandría

This space, surrounded by nature and shaped by the character of the land, offers a perfect setting for guided tours, tastings and workshops, combining the local winemaking tradition and its gastronomy with the uniqueness brought to the wines by these foreign varieties.

The grape varietals

Production

Cabernet Sauvignon

One of the essentials

Montes de Málaga’s poor soils and altitude temper the southern heat, shaping Cabernet Sauvignon into deeply coloured wines with cassis, plum and Mediterranean scrub notes, plus firm, polished tannins. Characterful, well-structured and age-worthy—a more relaxed take on this universal grape.

Tempranillo

Queen of many Spanish regions

Tempranillo—queen of many Spanish regions—takes on altitude and sea-breeze freshness in the Montes de Málaga. Vibrant cherry and raspberry meet balsamic and wild-herb notes. Smooth, balanced, and silky-tannined, it’s delicious both young and with a light ageing.

Syrah

Remarkable in our vineyard

Syrah shines here for its aromatic intensity and uncommon southern freshness. Blackberry and blueberry notes with hints of violet and black pepper. Medium-high body and lively acidity yield expressive, energetic reds that balance Mediterranean power with high-altitude elegance.

Petit Verdot

Surprising expression on these Málaga slopes

Late-ripening and demanding in terms of climate, Petit Verdot reaches a surprising expression on these Málaga slopes. Its wines display a deep colour, aromas of black fruits and violets, and an intense palate with firm tannins and great persistence. A variety that brings structure and longevity to blends in its native Bordeaux, it stands out as a single varietal in our area with aromas of fresh mint, chocolate truffle and After Eight.

Moscatel de Alejandría

The White Queen of Malaga

In the Montes de Málaga, Moscatel de Alejandría adapts to the rugged terrain and poor slate soils, where at La Fresneda its altitude and cool nights temper the Mediterranean heat. From it are obtained highly aromatic wines, with notes of white flowers and ripe fruit (peach and apricot), vibrant acidity on the palate and a mineral background that evokes its terroir.
